MORE ABOUT THIS BOOK
Main description:
"The Essential Guide to Coding in Obstetrics and Gynecology" is a compilation of coding resources developed by The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Committee on Coding and Nomenclature. The committee felt that it would be helpful to combine the many resources available, including excerpts of content from ACOG's coding workshops, into one book. This provides a resource for Fellows and their staff who are unable to attend a workshop. This book was developed for the Fellow or staff member who is new to coding, is new to ob-gyn coding, or wants a review of general coding principles with examples applicable to an ob-gyn practice. Information is included about use of the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, and Medicare rules, focusing on issues faced by the obstetrician - gynecologist. Each chapter ends with a quiz as a review of the chapter's major points. A list of ACOG's coding publications can be found in Appendix A. In addition, ACOG's Committee on Coding and Nomenclature holds between 11 and 13 coding workshops each year at locations throughout the country.
These workshops use an interactive approach to teaching coding to physicians and staff. Workshops cover evaluation and management coding, Medicare documentation, gynecologic surgery coding, and obstetric coding.
