The role of hepatitis B and C in causing hepatocellular carcinoma has been made clear in the last 20-30 years by clinical, basic, and epidemiological studies. Recent research has also explored the prevention of hepatocellular carcinoma through the control of chronic hepatitis B or C viral infection.
