MORE ABOUT THIS BOOK

Main description:

This atlas fills a gap in the literature by documenting in detail the role of nuclear medicine imaging of infection and inflammation. The pathophysiologic and molecular mechanisms on which radionuclide imaging of infection/inflammation is based are clearly explained, but the prime focus of the book is on the clinical relevance of such procedures. Their impact is demonstrated by a collection of richly illustrated teaching cases that describe the most commonly observed scintigraphic patterns, as well as anatomic variants and technical pitfalls. Due attention is paid to the application of recently developed techniques, including multimodality fusion imaging such as SPECT/CT and PET/CT. Emphasis is placed in particular on the ability of multimodality imaging to increase both the sensitivity and the specificity of radionuclide imaging. This atlas will be an excellent learning tool for residents in nuclear medicine and illuminating for other specialists with an interest in the field.

Feature:

Collection of richly illustrated teaching cases that show the clinical applications of radionuclide imaging in infection and inflammation

Presentation mode designed to help the reader to solve diagnostic cases encountered in everyday nuclear medicine practice

Variants, pitfalls and useful take-home tips

Learning tool especially useful for residents in nuclear medicine and for specialists in nuclear medicine approaching the field. Useful integration for residents and for specialists also in infectious and autoimmune diseases, as well as in orthopedics.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Average Rating

From the reviews:

“The only book to our knowledge with the format of an atlas designed and published specifically for scintigraphic imaging of infection and inflammation. … The strength of this atlas is due to teaching completeness in a unique field in which there are no other qualified competing publications. … useful to medical students, to residents in nuclear medicine and radiology, to professional working in diagnostic imaging … .” (Simona Ricciolino and Luigi Mansi, European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Vol. 41, 2014)

“Book is divided into 13 chapters covering a wide spectrum of infection and inflammation imaging in the entire body. … I highly recommend that this atlas be added to any radiology or nuclear medicine departmental library as a good reference manual … . will help the younger nuclear physician or those in training to learn from and expand their knowledge base and can also serve as a refresher manual for older physicians who may be unfamiliar with some of the abnormalities showcased in this atlas.” (Usha A. Joseph, The Journal of Nuclear Medicine, Vol. 54 (9), September, 2013)

“The authors present 47 clinical cases and many more imaging examples which illustrate the manifestations of commonly encountered infectious and inflammatory conditions. … The strength of this title comes from the abundance of images that cover most of the clinical scenarios likely to be encountered by readers. Clinical cases are well presented, each ending with conclusion/teaching points that are useful pearls of wisdom for everyday clinical practice.” (Henry H. Tam, RAD Magazine, August, 2013)

“The purpose is to provide the background essential for understanding the pathophysiological basis of radionuclide imaging of infection and inflammation and guidance for the correct interpretation of the images obtained for these studies. … it is appropriate for practitioners performing these studies, as well as residents and fellows in nuclear medicine and radiology who wish to gain a better understanding of this field. … This is a high quality and highly useful book demonstrating the value of radionuclide imaging … .” (Bennett S. Greenspan, Doody’s Book Reviews, July, 2013)

“The Authors of this 331-page case-based atlas … aim to present the reader with an overview of the use and results of nuclear medicine in the field of infection and inflammation. … The book will be very useful as a teaching aid for trainees in Nuclear Medicine and Radiology as well as Clinicians who are often unaware of the diagnostic opportunities offered by radionuclide imaging, which offers benefit to the patient, sometimes overrunning other radiological modalities.” (Giampiero Beluffi, La radiologia medica, Vol. 118, 2013)
